SUNAOKUWAHARA exhibited its Spring/Summer 2019 collection at its flagship store in Kita-aoyama.
Themed as balears formentera hotel, an imaginary hotel that the designer Sunao Kuwahara conceived, this season’s collection items represent various situations at the hotel: eating, relaxing in the room, and shopping, and the scenery, events, streetscape, sea, mountains, and winds encountered during the journey.
An exotic skirt and dress featuring the original chintz print representing the blend of the West and East, combined with the mannish stripe pattern; a shirt and dress sketching the maze of the old town of Medina in Morocco; a top with classical sailor stripes̶these items impressively use vivid blue that reminds us of the sea and sky, or arid-textured colors suggestive of dry air and sand. Many items are made of natural fabrics such as cotton and hemp, with the airy design that keeps wearers cool and comfortable.
The new collection implies a relaxed, sophisticated mood during a mysterious, imaginary journey.
