From March 24 to 29, 2018, kaiki exhibited its 2018 Autumn/Winter collection at SISON GALLERy in Shibuya.
The brand employs one technique for a variety of items, mainly everyday clothing. This season’s lineup includes skirts and dresses incorporating the unique Asian style of wrapping cloth around the body. Wrapped clothes are easily adjustable for any waist size. While taking advantage of it, the items are carefully designed to keep a clean silhouette without making them look too oversized by adjusting the amount of fabric used. The collection creatively integrates the brand concept of moderate sense of tension in a relaxed feel.
For the first time, kaiki employed sleek fake fur for outerwear. “For the last few seasons, my interest has been in the charming and enchanting mood of women,” said the designer Iio. To suggest clothes that can be worn for a long time, kaiki had mainly used firm fabrics that hold the silhouette. Since last year, it has also incorporated soft drapery cloths.
This can be seen in the brand’s collection lookbook as well. Former lookbooks highlighted the fabrics and silhouettes of items. In contrast, this season’s lookbook draws attention not only to the items but to the curves of women’s body, their silhouette and facial expressions, setting a different mood. This season’s photographer is Takako Noel, whose use of vivid colors makes her works strong. In the lookbook, models represent strong women with a touch of softness, which is in line with the charm that kaiki intends to express.
