In March 2020, NATSUMI ZAMA exhibited its new 2020 autumn/winter collection at a gallery in Shibuya, Tokyo.
With the theme symmetry, the collection inherits the last season’s concept of offering the left and right sides separately. Without the perception of front, back, left, or right, these items let wearers flexibly explore combinations to make it a garment of their own. It is the second season of the experimental collection.
Shirt dresses continue to be the top picks in this season like in the previous collection. Combining the same color and design for both sides can create a pretty shirt dress. Sometimes, you may want to bring together different colors or different designs. This gives wearers the freedom to play with the items, which I believe makes the collection attractive.
This season’s shirts come in limited two colors, black and white, making it easy to integrate a new item with an item from the previous collection. Coat buttons are hidden and invisible so that it does not look like it is worn the wrong way around. This represents the designer Zama’s attention to small details.
I personally recommend a combination of a coat and corduroy jacket. With buttons aligned at the same position, different design parts can be combined, creating a unique style. This is a new style developed as I talked with Ms. Zama about the collection at the exhibition venue. The symmetry series allows the brand and wearers create new styles together.
